Avoid These Costly Affiliate Internet Marketing Mistakes

Affiliate Internet marketing can be profitable for people looking to make money on the Internet. If you do more research, however, you will find that many people have failed. The difference between the two is minimal, but there are some simple mistakes that can be costly.

Below are five affiliate marketing mistakes to avoid.

1. Not having a plan:
With the internet changing as frequently as it does, it is essential that you have a plan of some sort. While your plan is certain to change with the internet, having a plan will prepare you for what is to come. If you know where you want to take your affiliate business, bumps and curves along the road will only momentarily throw you off.

2. Selling the program:
It can become quite easy to get caught up in the game and begin to sell the program as opposed to the product itself. What you have to realize is that you are going to make your money from the commissions through selling the product. Too many people sign up and then attempt to sign as many other people up as they can. While it is perfectly fine to try to sign people up you are not going to make real money from second-tier commissions. Stick to where the money can be made.

3. Going through the motions:
There is nothing worse than a salesman that is going through the motions and appears to be looking at a sheet of paper with guidelines. If you want to have success with online affiliate marketing, you have to have passion and believe in what you are selling. This is not to say that every person you talk to is going to sign up or purchase something. But you will sound so much more influencing if you believe in what you are saying.

4. Moving too quickly:
While time is money on the internet, each customer is potential money as well. Take the time to talk with prospects so that you leave a lasting impact on them. Jumping from one customer to the next too quickly will do nothing for you. If you show each prospect that you truly care about them and their needs, they will be more inclined to listen. From there, you can sell your product on a more personal level and give them reasons for how your product can truly benefit them.

5. Be yourself:
The last thing you want to do is create a typical affiliate program page to sell off of. This looks too automated and far to cliche. If you want to have success, personalize your page and show people you are an individualistic. There are thousands of affiliate program sites that are identical; mix things up and make yours stand out.

While there are hundreds of things you can and should try to avoid with your affiliate Internet marketing, try not to get too caught up in worrying about these things. You are going to make mistakes, so move on without hesitation. These are a few of the mistakes you may encounter along the way. But as long as you remain confident and goal-oriented, you will set yourself up for success with your affiliate business.

1. Quantity or Quality Better?
Quality links are better of course. I stumbled upon this by accident when I set up my new blog last year and I had the intuition to focus solely on authority sites comprising of only .edu sites and at least PR4 blogs and ensured relevancy using my BlogComment Demon software to locate them. Because the next PR update then was December/January, I had only about 6 weeks to obtain these back links. I didn’t get that many, just about 30 but they were of very high quality and high PR links. The result of my accidental experiment: My Blog pagerank moved from PR0 to PR2. Lots of people have argued that pagerank is not important and their business and income have not suffered with a lower rank. But for the purpose of back link building you will soon see that pagerank does matter and is one of the key ingredients to help you rank well in search engines.

But hypothetically, what if you had 20000 PR0 links? Would you outrank someone who has say 500 quality links? Nobody really knows Google’s back link algorithm to be able to answer this question. But my guess is that in this example, quantity could outrank the quality back links but with a proviso that the 20000 PR0 links had been obtained legitimately and over a reasonable period of time. I like to think that the average marketer would not be able to get such quantity if he is just starting out in his Legitimate Home Internet Business.

Answering the Five W’s in Your Legitimate Home Internet Business

When you are starting your new home business, your mind, or I must say: your mindset, is the starting point. It is imperative to know the Who, What, Where, When and Why when considering starting up a legitimate home Internet business. The five W’s will greatly influence your chances of success dramatically.

Let us look at the five W’s individually.

WHO; who are you doing this for? Is it for personal gain and notoriety, family obligations or maybe to help a friend in need. If you do not clearly know and understand whom you are doing this for, you will have a very difficult time maintaining the motivation to achieve the level of success you desire.

WHAT; It is crucial to know exactly what it is you wish to achieve. Achieving success comes from knowing precisely what it is you want. Then next step is to set goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time based, better known as S.M.A.R.T. goals. To learn more about goal setting just do a quick search on your favorite search engine, there is a great deal of information available.

WHERE; research is the key here. There are countless ways and places to set up a home business on the Internet. What is most important here is to keep a level head and an open mind while doing your research to determine your chosen field.

It is highly recommended that you never make a purchase at the first offer. Look around and do some comparison-shopping, or window-shopping if you will. Traffic exchange is very popular for new online businesses. They can be free or charge on a monthly basis. With this method, each member views other member’s websites, usually for a specified period, to build credits. PRO: It’s usually free and can create lots of traffic quickly.
CON: The traffic you get is not targeted traffic, so usually works better for businesses that appeal to a wide audience. In addition, viewing other member’s websites can be time consuming, or cost you some money to purchase credits.

Online Forums

Forums are online communities that discuss specific topics. There are forums (or discussion groups) on just about any topic you can think of. You can find these by doing a search for ‘forum’ and your topic. You can also search on Google to find Groups for your keyword or phrase. Forums are usually free to join.

Most forums don’t allow commercial solicitations because the focus is on exchanging information. Be prepared to add useful comments to the discussion and follow the posted rules. You may be allowed to attach a signature to your comments. Put your website in the signature to attract the search engine spiders and send visitors to your site. Develop a reputation as an expert on your topic and give free advice when possible to build credibility.

PRO: You’ll receive targeted traffic as well as build credibility.
CON: You must be careful not being label as spamer. You have to spend time answering questions and posting comments. Depending on where you post and what you say you may or may not see a lot of traffic initially.

Newsletters

While starting newsletters does not bring traffic to your site, it does take advantage of the visitors who do come. The code for collecting emails can often be obtained from your host provider free or an auto responder service which is free or paid depending on your service. You should have a place for visitors to enter their email address and name on your site. You then can send them a free report or email regularly with tips or news about your topic. This will permit you to build a relationship with prospects as well as grant you permission to contact them again with your offer. It often takes up to several contacts before you make a sale, so don’t let them leave without getting their email!

PRO: It’ll permits you to contact interested prospects again and builds relationship with customers and potential customers.
CON: You need to provide quality information on a regular basis.

Each of the marketing strategies outlined above is proven to work.
